2013 SU Update: FISU Seminar in Kazan – Day 2

KAZAN The FISU Seminar dedicated to the preparation and staging of the 27th Summer Universiade inKazan proceeded with its planned agenda on January 18th. Before new reports were presented by the FISU delegates, the results of Day 1 workshops were summed up.

Thus, before the Medicine and Doping Control session started, the seminar participants reviewed the clinical database ofKazanand held a few official meetings with representatives of various ministries and departments. The session’s agenda included medical and sanitary care, doping control. Among the healthcare-related issues discussed by the FISU delegates with the organizers of the University Games in Kazan were coordination between medical care providers of Kazan 2013 and national team doctors, provision of medicines to athletes and visitors of the Games, accommodation of team doctors on the territory of the Universiade Village Medical Centre, and health insurance.

The seminar entrants also analyzed such sanitary and epidemiological service-related issues as vaccination for athletes, support staff and volunteers of the Games, food safety and environmental monitoring. And the importance of signing an agreement with RUSADA, as well as key aspects of specialized personnel training were examined among the problems related to doping control. TheFISUseminar participants offered to make an amendment to the 2013 Summer Universiade transportation plan that will guarantee transporting athletes to their place of accommodation after healthcare is delivered to them, as the Russian legal system doesn’t provide such a possibility.

The agenda of the Sport Event Management session included a wide range of issues :from the key control centre and personnel training to 2013 Summer Universiade official document delivery. A careful consideration was given to such topics as the structure, functions and schemes of interaction between units of the key control centre, as well as of the media centre and sport information centre, temporary personnel and volunteer motivation, test events management (including personnel testing). Heads of national delegations meeting management became a key question on the session’s agenda. The meeting is scheduled to be held four months before the start of the Games inKazanand will see the participation of heads of national delegations. By that time, the Kazan 2013 organizers must prepare all information regarding sports and urban infrastructure to be put into operation during the Games, transportation plan and key official documents. Based on past experience, a final list of participants is drawn up based on the results of those meetings.

On the second day of theFISUSeminar, the experts of the International University Sports Federation provided the audience with a glimpse into such areas of responsibility as protocol, Universiade OC personnel, media and TV broadcasting, risk management and insurance, Universiade Village, catering and transportation services, safety control. The working groups started their work in the afternoon and the Kazan 2013 representatives were given a chance to ask questions that cover all areas of preparation activities in the run up to the 2013 Summer Universiade.
