2013 SU Update: FISU evaluates Preparation of Medical Services

KAZAN On the sidelines of the FISU Seminar which opened in Kazan, Chair of the FISU Medical Committee Dr. Lawrence Rink met with Tatarstan’s Minister of Health Care Airat Farrakhov and inspected a few medical facilities of the host city of the 27th Summer Universiade.

The meeting with Dr. Lawrence Rink also saw the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan, Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate, Health Care Department of the city of Kazan, head doctors of republican health care establishments, officials of the Administration of the Federal Service on Customers’ Rights Protection and Human Well-Being Surveillance in the Republic of Tatarstan. Delivery of medical care during the 2013 SU became the major topic of discussion. Director of the Department of Medical, Sanitary and Epidemiological Services of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate Marat Gataullin made a keynote report on the preparation of all medical services for the 2013 Summer Universiade. «Health care activities at sports venues will be delivered by mobile first aid units, medical volunteers; fixed medical stations will be set up to render health care services to athletes and spectators,» he said.

It also became known that the hospitals used during the 2012 Summer Universiade will be the Republican Clinical Hospital, Children Republican Clinical Hospital, Medical Clinical Diagnostic Centre, and Republican Infectious Diseases Hospital. In addition, the medical centre will be put into operation at the UniversiadeVillage to deliver 24/7 medical care. The centre will comprise the following departments: traumatology, orthopedics, surgery, urology, cardiology, EMS, a laboratory and a doping control station.

«You’ve done a lot more that you were supposed to», admitted Dr. Rink, assessing the medical health care planning for the 2013 Summer Universiade.

«The preparation of medical services for the 2013 Summer Universiade is our priority», said Minister of Health Care of Tatarstan Airat Farrakhov. «We are fully aware of the responsibility that lies on our shoulders. This visit is very important for us. We hope you give an assessment and your recommendations.»

Later on, Dr. Rink visited republican health care establishments and explored how health care is organized and delivered there.
