AUSF: Review the Past and Create the Future

6 January 2012

Opening Ceremony 2nd AUSF Taekwondo Championship

BEIJING – As we rush to move headlong into the new year 2012, we need to take a little time to review all that we have done in the year 2011.

AUSF Events 2011

In 2011, 3 AUSF championships were organized and held, i.e. the 2nd Asian University Taekwondo Championship (Almaty, Kazakhstan; 22 – 24 May), the 1st Asian University Beach Volleyball Championship (Laizhou, China; 16 – 19 July) and the 1st Asian University Golf Championship (Hua Hin, Thailand; 12 – 16 Dec.). Over 230 officials and students representing some 30 members took part in these events.

A significant move in 2011 was the outreaching effort to stage the first AUSF event in Central Asia. The EC meeting and the Taekwondo Championship held in Almaty, Kazakhstan proved to be successful for the Federation and good publicity for the Kazakhstan Federation.

During the 26th Summer Universiade held in Shenzhen, China, most AUSF members were represented. Certainly, Asian members did not capture as many medals as other continental members, but their intention to participate in this world-wide gala was as strong as others.

FISU General Election

The General Assembly ofFISUwas held in Shenzhen, before the opening of the 26th Shenzhen Summer Universiade. During the meting, the following members of AUSF were elected to the Executive Committee (2011-2015) ofFISU:

Mr. ZHANG Xinsheng (CHN)  –  Vice President
Mr. DANZANDORJ Bayasgalan MGL)  –  Treasurer
Dr. KIM Chong Yang (KOR)  –  Assessor
Dr. CHEN Tai-cheng (TPE)  –  Assessor

Dr. AL-HAI Omar (UAE) –  Assessor
Mr. IGARASHI Hisato (JPN)  –  Assessor
Mr. CHOW Kenny (HKG) –  Assessor

Together with Mr. SEETOW Cheng Fave (SIN) as the Continental Representative, there are eight members from Asia serving in the Executive Committee of FISU.

Attribution of 2017 Winter and Summer Universiades

2017 will be a challenging year for Asian countries and regions. Almaty, Kazakhstan won the bid to host the 2017 Winter Universiade. The 2017 Summer Universiade was awarded to Taipei City of Chinese Taipei. The flagship events ofFISUwill both be held in Asia in the same year for the first time in 2017. The desire of Asian members to work and contribute for the university sports movement in the world is again a win-win situation for FISU and all FISUmembers.
