2015 SU Update: Welcoming Ceremony for Gwangju Universiade ‘Global Reporters’

3 January 2012

GWANGJU – On December 27th, the Gwangju Universiade Organizing Committee (GUOC) held an orientation session at the welcoming ceremony for the first group of global reporters for the 2015 Summer Universiade.

Global reporters are on-line ambassadors who promote the 2015 Summer Universiade by sharing recent news on the international event and the city of Gwangju on the Internet to encourage people’s active participation in the event. The first group is composed of 25 students from universities of the USA and China as well as Korea.

At the welcoming ceremony, they received appointment letters and lectures on what global reporters need to know, such as the outline of the 2015 Gwangju Universiade, effective management of blogs and SNS as well as filming techniques.

They also carried out their first mission as reporters by writing about the welcoming ceremony on their blogs and facebook pages with encouraging messages for the event.

The head reporter, Kang Shin-hye (21 years of age, junior at Hanguk University of Foreign Studies), said, “I applied for this position with an anticipation to be a part of the international festival of college students. I feel proud to be a global reporter and will do everything I can to host the event successfully.”

By 2015, the total of 200 global reporters will be recruited by the GUOC and pass on news about the Universiade to every corner of the global village.

A source from the GUOC mentioned, “We are living in a ‘smart’ world where using social media is inevitable for promoting the Universiade effectively. There is no doubt that the global reporters will spread the news of the city and draw people’s attention to the Universiade.”
