GWANGJU – The 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade and cultural city of Gwangju are going to be introduced in a film. The Gwangju Universiade Organizing Committee (GUOC) announced that they will start filming the independent film ‘At Blossom Time Gwangju’ on November 7th, jointly with the Arirang TV.

‘At Blossom Time Gwangju’ is a story of a woman who fell in love with two brothers and is returning to Gwangju with her athlete son (a fencer for the University of Montreal, Canada) 20 years later to attend the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade. The film is produced by Seung-jae Cha (Chair of Korea Film Producers Association, Professor of the Department of Cinema at Dong-guk University), and directed by In-sik Kim, who directed ‘Faceless Beauty’. The main roles are played by Ye Ji-won and Choi U-je.

Filming will take place in November in the Gwangju and Jeonnam areas, including famous sites such as the Universiade Stadium, the World Cup Stadium, Yeomju Stadium, National Cemetery of May 18 Democracy Movement, and scenic roads to Mudeung Mountain, as well as Naju and Hwasoon.

Kim Yoon-suk, the Secretary General of the GUOC stated, “The film does not directly promote the Gwangju Universiade, but the movie will certainly show the sentiment of the cultural city, Gwangju and the festivity of the Gwangju Universiade.”

After the editing and post-production process, the film is going to be shown next spring on the Arirang TV channel and released in 188 countries around the world.

Since last August, the GUOC has been working on the film-making project after signing an MOU with the International Broadcasting Foundation of Arirang TV with the intention of promoting the Gwangju Universiade through film.

A source from the GUOC said, “When the film is finished, we will have a premiere in Gwangju and then release it to theaters nationwide and enter international film festivals.”
