2013 SU Update: Students of Tatarstan head towards the Universiade

KAZAN The briefing dedicated to key student projects of 2011, Student of the Year Annual Award and Student Solidarity Week, took place in the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan on November 1st. One of the key topics on the briefing’s agenda was involvement of a major student organizations of the Republic in the preparations for the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan.

The briefing was attended by Timur Suleimanov, President of the Student League of the Republic of Tatarstan; Larisa Sulima, Chief of Staff of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate and Chairman of the Coordination Council of Pro-Rectors for Education Work under the Rectors Council of Tatarstan; Vinera Khabibullina, Head of the Children and Youth Organization Department of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan. After highlighting all key projects implemented by the Student League of Tatarstan in a 15-year long history of the organization, the briefing’s participants gave a review of the details on the most significant and promising organizations of the student community to the republican media representatives.

«In fulfillment of the obligations under the cooperation agreement signed with the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate in February 2011, the Student League got actively involved in the preparations for the World University Summer Games, and started promoting ideas of the 2013 Summer Universiade among students. One of the most important areas of cooperation is establishing interregional relations which was carried out during the FISU Flag Relay held under the motto ‘Universiade in Your City!’. With assistance from the Student League and thanks to commitment and enthusiasm of  Tatarstan’s student leaders we succeeded to inspire students of 16 Russian cities to become part of the 2013 Games, and now the FISU Flag continues its journey on the territory of our Republic», Larisa Sulima said.

Indeed, the FISU Flag, the main historical relic of international university sports movement, has already been carried through Yelabuga, Naberezhnye Chelny and Almetyevsk, the oil capital of Tatarstan. On November 4th, National Unity Day, the FISU Flag Relay will arrive in Bugulma.

«It’s really important that we not simply gain new partners, but also transform our good intentions into real actions; for instance, at the end of November the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate and Student League of the Republic of Tatarstan with the support of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan will gather in Kazan leaders of student self-government and heads of regional centres opened to assist in the preparations for the Universiade. Together with student leaders from the cities of the Volga Federal District, and the cities of Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Ekaterinburg we will plan the program of Kazan 2013 volunteer training and popularization of ideas of international university sports movement among youth», Larisa Sulima summed up.
