2017 WU Bidding Update: Almaty opens New Sport Academy

27 October 2011

ALMATY – A new Academy of Football has been opened for young talented Kazakh athletes in Almaty as a part of the bidding campaign for the 2017 Winter Universiade. The main aim of the opening of this Academy for young sportsmen is to promote healthy lifestyle and sport practicing among young people of Almaty in particular and in Kazakhstan in general.

In order to achieve these goals new academies will be opened in the near future, i.e. for volleyball, rugby and winter sports.

“Our goal for the forthcoming years is to host the 2017 Winter Universiade in Almaty and all our initiatives and activities, including the opening of the Academy of Football, are based on the idea to involve Kazakh people into sports”, said Kairat Zakiryanov, President of the Kazakh Student Sports Federation.

During the opening ceremony the concept of the Almaty bidding campaign for the 2017 Winter Universiade has been presented for the media, young athletes and NGOs. It should be noted that the promotion of sport practice among Kazakh people is one of the strategic parts of the legacy of the Almaty-2017 bidding concept.
