2017 WU Bidding Update: Evaluation Committee met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan

ALMATY – On October 24th, the Evaluation Committee met with the Prime Minister of the Republic ofKazakhstan Karim Massimov in his residence in Astana. Minister of education and science Bakhytzhan Zhumagulov and Minister of tourism and sport Talgat Ermegiyayev also attended this meeting. The Kazakh officials expressed their support for Almaty bidding to host the 28th Winter Universiade in 2017.

After the meeting the Evaluation Committee members had brief excursion around Astana. They visited thenew citycenter, the Ice Palace and Nazarbayev University. The members of the Evaluation Committee could see how the Kazakh government built a new and beautiful modern city within just 12 years. At the end of the day they returned to Almaty.

In Almaty on the second day, the Evaluation Committee visited Baluan Sholak Sports Palace and observed the ice rink and facilities. Afterwards the Evaluation Committee held a press briefing for the Kazakh media and answered questions about their impressions on Almaty, the sports infrastructure and general readiness of the city administration to host the Winter Universiade.

The final stage of the FISU Evaluation Committee visit to Kazakhstan was the Bidding Committee presentation of such issues as vision, legacy, sustainability, educational and cultural programs.
