2012 WUC Update: 1st Technical Meeting OC 2012 WUC Orienteering

ALICANTE At the University of Alicante the Organizing Committee of the 2012 WUC Orienteering held its first technical meeting.  

Technically, the three areas of competition of the Championship were exhibited and visited. The long distance event will be held in Tibi, the middle distance and relays in Santa Pola and the sprint event in the city ofAlicante. The Spanish Orienteering Federation emphasized the great significance of the championship.

The OC used the meeting to present the logo of the 2012 WUOC and its promotion on social networks such as Facebook where FISU has created a website to promote all World University Championships that will be celebrated next year 2012.

On the other hand, the Organizing Committee intends to present the Orienteering Championship as an international sport event of interest to tourists at a press conference during the International Tourism Trade Fair in Madrid (FITUR) next January. Orienteering sport has many followers in the Nordic countries and it is more than likely competitors, coaches, judges and people from all over the world will visit Alicante. The OC will invite allFISUMember Associations to participate in the WUOC and a special invitation will be sent to Mozambique and Colombiain order to participate for the first time. In earlier editions around 35 countries registered bringing some 500 competitors to the Championship.

Two members of the Spanish Orienteering Federation, Víctor Garbe and José Samper, President and technical management; Aitor Canibe, technical management of the National University Sport Federation (NUSF) and technical specialists of the Sport Department of the University of Alicante attended the meeting.
