14 October 2011

BRUSSELS The city of Blumenau (BRA), famous for maintaining alive the German customs of its founders, will host the 21st edition of the World University Handball Championship from June 21st to July 1st, 2012.

Handball, which was the first sport to appear in theFISUWUC program, was organized for the first time in 1963 in Lund (SWE) but was organized for both men and women in the same place only since 2006, in Gdansk.

This 21st World University Handball Championship will be the first edition organized out of Europe. That reflects the current expansion of Brazil in sport emphasized by the fact that the Brazilian Confederation of University Sport will also host the 6th World University Beach Volleyball Championship in Maceio, in September 2012.

The best university handball players will meet in Brazil in order to win the title hold by Hungary for both men and women since last edition.
