2015 WU Update: New OC Appointments

GRANADA – During a private visit in the region of Málaga, Spain, FISU Vice-President Leonz Eder, was invited by the OC of the Winter Universiade 2015 in Granada to pay a visit to Granada and to meet some of the OC members.

The next step in the progress of the preparations for the Winter Universiade in 2015 will be a working visit in Granada by Eric Saintrond, FISU Secretary-General/CEO and Milan Augustin, Director for the Winter Universiade from November 7th to 9th.

Leonz Eder, still Vice-Chairman of the Supervision Committee for the Winter Universiade until the end of November, was informed about some major changes in the organizational structure of the OC. Indeed, David Caballo, newly elected FISU EC Member, act as Secretary-General of the OC, Aurelio Ureña was nominated CEO of the 2015 WU, and Pablo Gomez is the Technical Director.

The successful team of the Sierra Nevada Region where the snow sports will be staged, remains the same, e.g. Maria José Lopez as CEO of Sierra Nevada, Ignacio Valenzuela as Marketing Director and Eduardo Valenzuela as Mountain Director.

At the last FIS Congress, held in Zurich,Switzerland, the Sierra Nevada presented its candidature for the 2017 FIS World Championships in the Freestyle and Snowboard Disciplines. This underlines the long term strategy of the Sierra Nevada team to host important international events.

The OC developed a new concept for the ice sports to be held in the city of Granada. This project will be presented to Mr Saintrond and Mr Augustin during their visit inGranadaand then proposed to the FISU EC.
