2013 WU Update: FISU Seminar for Maribor OC

MARIBOR – On October 12th, 2011, the FISU Seminar for Universiade OC started in Maribor, the hosting city of the 26th Winter Universiade. The president of the Maribor OC Tone VOGRINEC and SUSA President and Vice-President of the Maribor OC Otmar KUGOVNIK opened this important seminar with a welcome speech.

The seminar was attended byFISUWinter CTI Chair Roger ROTH, Director of WU Milan AUGUSTIN, Director of SU Marc VANDENPLAS, Director World University Championships Laurent BRIEL, Director of Education & Development Kole GJELOSHAJ, Director of Media & Communication Dejan SUSOVIC, Director of Finance Uyan BEKHBAT, Office Manager Hedwige HANKART, Sport Assistant of WU Jiho KIM from FISU side as well as all the key persons from Maribor OC.

The purpose of this seminar is not only to provide the Maribor OC with FISU experiences and knowledge transfer but also give a general overview of organizing the WU. More importantly, this seminar provided a chance to have the first contact between the key persons in FISU and the Maribor OC.

On the first day of the seminar, the Maribor OC was given the opportunity to learn about the FISU history, FISU events and many other aspects, to meet with those who are in charge of sport issues, Athletes’ Village, accreditation, finance, FISU Family, protocol and education, and receive all the information needed to prepare the 2013 WU.

The Maribor OC also had an opportunity to have questions and answers sessions to get more detailed information from each speaker.

Yesterday’s seminar covered the following topics;

  • FISU historical facts & FISU structure;

  • Organization of the sport event & global view of the organization chart within OC;

  • Financial Obligations;

  • Technical Regulations, Minimum Requirements, their involvement into scheduling & terminology;

  • Accreditation center & entries;

  • Human Resources & staff categories & volunteers program;

  • Protocol issues;

  • FISU Family, FISU meetings arrangements;

  • Athletes’ Village, catering & transport services;

  • Media & TV Services;

  • Relations between ISF, NSF, NUSF, International department, OC and FISU.

FISU video presentations such as accreditation, human resources, volunteer program, protocol, Athletes’ Village, catering, transport services and media were shown during the seminar to explain in detail the activities of these departments.

The first day of  FISU seminar was an excellent opportunity to set the right expectations and stress the importance of the 26th Maribor WU which is already following a smooth preparations process. FISU also has a chance to see what OC needs.
