2013 SU Update: FISU Flag Relay reaches Cheboksary

CHEBOKSARY The ‘Universiade in Your City!’ train delivered the FISU Flag Relay delegates in Cheboksary, the capital of the Republic of Chuvashia, on Monday, September 19th.

The Kazan 2013 delegates were met with a warm welcome and atmosphere of hospitality and cordiality typical for all the federal regions of Russia. The guests were greeted by students of the Ilya Ulyanov Chuvash State University, Minister of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Chuvash Republic Anatoly Nikolaev, Deputy Minister of Education and Youth Policy of the Chuvash Republic Elizaveta Kazakova, as well as Rector of the Chuvash State University Vsevolod Agakov. The guests were treated to traditional bread and salt andChuvashbeer.

«It’s the eleventh city where we delivered a unique historical relic, the Flag of the International University Sports Federation, which for more than 50 years has been charged with positive energy of young athletes and sports enthusiasts from all over the world. As the closest city to Kazan, Cheboksary must take the most active part in the preparations and delivery of the Summer Universiade which returns to Russia after 40 years», said Larisa Sulima, Chief of Staff of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate, in her welcome speech.

The key events of the FISU Flag Relay in Cheboksary took place in the Chuvash State University where a cooperation agreement between the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate and the university was signed and in the students’ culture centre where the ‘Universiade in Your City!’ concert took place.
