2013 SU Update: Chuvashia displays its Talents

CHEBOKSARY – The festivities on the occasion of theFISU Flag Relay in Cheboksary ended with the ‘Universiade in Your City!’ concert which took place in the Ilya Ulyanov Chuvash State University.

Before the concert started, the Flowers of the Universiade flowerbed were solemnly inaugurated in the front yard of the Chuvash State University. The ceremony was attended by Anatoly Nikolaev, Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of the Republic of Chuvashia; Danil Mustafin, 1st Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan; Vsevolod Agakov, Rector of the Ilya Ulyanov Chuvash State University; Larisa Sulima, Chief of Staff of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate and young activists of Tatarstan and Chuvashia.

The flowerbed in the shape of the tulip, the official symbol of the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan, became a gift to the city of Cheboksary. Later on, the officials of Tatarstan and Chuvashia took part in the ‘We Vote for PEACE!’ and ‘Greeting Card 2013’ events, thus expressing their solidarity with the Russian youth in their commitment to peoples’ friendship and tolerance in the world.

The celebrations in honor of the Chuvash athletes that demonstrated brilliant performance at the 26th World University Summer Games in Shenzhen took place at the beginning of the ‘Universiade in Your City!’ concert, later followed by the FISU Flag replica handover ceremony. First Deputy Managing Director of the Chuvash Branch of Sberbank of Russia Mikhail Nozdryakov delivered his welcome speech to the audience. «Sberbank of Russia is always involved in such significant and interesting projects as the FISU Flag Relay. We support youth sports and young people’s creativity, since we know that youth are our future», the Sberbank of Russia representative said.

The FISU Flag replica was handed over to Minister Anatoly Nikolaev and Rector Vsevolod Agakov, who in their turn passed it to Alina Ivanova, an Olympic race walk champion and a newly appointed Kazan 2013 Ambassador. «Today we leave in your city a unique ensign, symbolizing our partnership with you and desire to stage the best World University Games inKazanever. In 2013 all these replicas will meet together at the Opening Ceremony in Kazan and demonstrate to the world the unity of the Russian team engaged in the preparations and staging of the Games», Larisa Sulima said.

The concert proceeded with a joint performance of best creative bands of Tatarstan and Chuvashia. Students of the Ilya Ulyanov Chuvash State University, Chuvash State Pedagogical University and Chuvash State Cooperative University showcased their talents, the most memorable of them were Andrey Makarov and Ilya Moiseev, a fashion theatre of the Chuvash State Pedagogical University and FreezeLight, a unique group of techno art enthusiasts.

We would like to remind you that the selection and support of talented creative bands will become one of the most important fields of cooperation under the agreement signed today between the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate and Chuvash State University. The most gifted performers of Chuvashia will be included in UNI-elite to display their talents at the Cultural Universiade in Kazan. At the same time bands and artists from Tatarstan, that already are part of UNI-elite, earned a well-deserved standing ovation of students of Chuvashia during the concert. Matvey Kozin, U13 dance project, beat boxer Mitya Burmistrov and a headliner of the concert, the Murakami rock band, will stay in the memory of Cheboksary’s citizens.
