Minister for Sports visits Camp of UASSU’s Young Hopefuls

15 September 2011

DAKAR – In the framework of the PASI Program (support program for inclusive sport) funded by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Senegal, the Senegalese Union of University and School Sports Associations (UASSU), sets up a sports camp in partnership with CNP Handisport for 350 schoolchildren, 50 of whom are disabled sportsmen, under 16 from Dakar and Thiès.

The PASI Program was established to support an initiative launched by four actors of the sports sector (UASSU, INSEPS, Vision 21 and Handisports) to provide groups that are traditionally marginalized by national sports policies, such as young disabled people, with easier access to sport.

The program aims at offsetting insufficient practice of sport, exclusion, as well as stigmatization, which sometimes affect young and disabled people. To this end, it encompasses various activities such as the organization of training sessions (camps) or mass sports activities (cross country), awareness campaigns, media coverage and general support activities for young and disabled people.

This activity is scheduled from September 13th to 18th in the Leopold Sedar Senghor Stadium and will feature many disciplines, such as football, basketball, beach volleyball, judo, athletics, taekwondo and handball.

Training will take place in the Leopold Senghor Stadium and on Diamalaye Beach.

Mr. Faustin DIATTA, the Minister for Sports of Senegal, His Excellency the Ambassador of the Netherlandsand Presidents of National Sports Federations visited the Sports Camp on Thursday September 15th at 10.00.
