2013 SU Update: FISU Flag delivered in Orenburg

ORENBURGThe ‘Universiade in Your City!’- train arrived in Orenburg, the fourth city on the route of the FISU Flag Relay.

A warm welcome awaited the Kazan 2013 delegates at the railway station of Orenburg; the Kazan 2013 delegates received a greeting from Elena Ostanina, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth Policy of the Orenburg Region; Tatyana Nosova, Pro-Rector of Orenburg State University; Alexey Goncharov, Deputy Managing Director of the Orenburg Branch of Sberbank of Russia; as well as students of three leading higher education institutions of the region, namely Orenburg State University, Orenburg State Medical Academy and Orenburg State Agrarian University.

While greeting the Kazan 2013 delegates, Elena Ostanina said: «The Orenburg Region is a young region, that’s why today the city is happy to have the FISU Flag here. The Universiade is the best thing that youth can give to the world; it’s a will to win, devotion to sports, and as the motto goes, ‘O sports, you are peace!’, pursuit of peace.»

 

 

The best creative bands of Orenburg delivered a concert on the occasion of the FISU Flag Relay festivities; the Zhemchuzhinka band of drummers, a winner of the UNI-elite project, made an appearance in the gig as well. Following the concert staged on an improvised stage set up at the railway station, Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate Igor Sivov made a presentation of the FISU Flag to young people of Orenburg. «The Flag that we delivered inOrenburgtoday is a unique relic that has seen many countries and has travelled thousands of kilometers. On August 23rd, we received the flag from our Chinese colleagues. It’s 40 years since it was in Russia for the last time. And today we are happy to deliver it in your city!» Igor Sivov said.

«Hunderds of kilometers lie between Tatarstan and Orenburg Region, but love for sports and creativity brings us together!» Chief of Staff of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate Larisa Sulima said. «This feeling will make us work hand in hand to stage the best World University Summer Games ever held!»

The traditional hundredweight of salt and chak-chak were presented to the colleagues from Orenburg, while the hosts gave the Kazan 2013 delegates trademark souvenirs of the Orenburg Region, a lace shawl and a round loaf.

The FISU Flag Relay already passed through the cities of Izhevsk, Perm and Ufa. An exact replica of the flag with the name of the city on it is left in each city on the route of the FISU Flag Relay.
