KAZANIn November 2012, as part of the program of festivities for Student Solidarity Week,Kazan may host the first All-Russian University Sports Ball. The idea was offered by FISU 1st Vice-President and Russian Student Sports President Oleg Matytsin during one of the meetings held within the FISU Flag Relay

In the course of the talks with Kazan 2013 executives Vladimir Leonov, Igor Sivov and Larisa Sulima, Oleg Matytsin advanced an idea on holding the University Sports Ball, timed to coincide with the traditional All-Russian Student Solidarity Week.

«This ball must become a solemn summing up of a sports year, which will bring together the best student athletes from all over Russia. We may organize a competition in different nominations and award the best of the best, turning them into youth idols. I’m confident that the ball will enable us to rise sports to a new level and fit it perfectly into the lifestyle of modern youth», Oleg Matytsin said.

It’s no coincidence that the Russian Student Sports President offered Kazan as the host of the event. In 2012, when the All-Russian University Sports Ball will be held in the capital of Tatarstan and there will be a little more than half a year left till the 2013 Universiade, Kazan will be already acknowledged as an international centre of university sports. Moreover,Kazan’s status as the sports capital of Russia finds more and more confirmation during the FISU Flag Relay these days.
