2011 SU Update: Universiade even in the Supermarket

SHENZHEN – Many people watch the Universiade competition from their home, some of them from a restaurant, and others from the grandstands. But, how about watching it from the supermarket?

On August 18th, during the Female Football match betweenChina andBrazil a bunch of local people interrupted their shopping in the supermarket and started watching the game.  Suddenly, the electronics department of the supermarket was full of “aaahhhs”,“ooohhhs”, “jia yous” and “ahh yaas” .

“Along” from Shenzhen was buying groceries when he saw a bunch of people excitingly watching a game. “Then I realized it was the football match betweenChinaandBraziland I wanted to know the result”, he explained.

“Tiger” was also watching the game. “I came here because there are a lot of people and the image is very good.” He also added he was very satisfied with the performance of the Chinese delegation at the Universiade.

William went to the store because they have a big LCD Screen with all the games of the Universiade. “What’s more, its great fun watching the games with a bunch of people”, he added.

At the beginning of the football game there were only two persons watching very quietly but as time passed by, more people stopped by the watch. At the end of the football event there were some 50 persons sitting in the aisles.

“Nany”, an employee of the supermarket, said that it is very common that people stop buying to watch the games, especially when the Chinese athletes are performing.

Watching the Universiade in the supermarket… who would have expected it?
