A proud Brazilian relay team posing with their silver medal
SHENZHEN – On the second day of the swimming finals at the 26th Universiade, the Brazilian relay team secured the silver medal in the men’s 4x100m freestyle, achieving the first silver medal of Brazil in these games. Henrique Martins, member of the team that won the second place, was surprised and honored to know that the first silver of Brazil came with swimming, “Good results and we still have other events to race and maybe have a chance to win a gold”, Henrique said.
Doing a race of recovery the first to jump in the water for Brazil was Marco Macedo with not a very strong start, opening in fifth with a 50.02 and relaying to Marcelo Chierighini responsible for the starting of the Brazilian recovery clocking a 48.86 letting Brazil in 2nd. Then Henrique Martins dived in and clocked a 50.34 after his lap.
The reaction came with Nicolas Oliveira, an expert in the 200m freestyle who went to seek the silver medal for Brazil with an amazing pace, staying only behind the American team, but doing the best individual 100m of all the swimmers in the race with a 48.08, posing as a favorite for the men’s 100m freestyle qualifiers. “As a 200m swimmer it was easy make a strong 50’s. Now it’s time to focus on the 100m trying too pocklet the gold medal.”
