2011 SU Update: 28 Dedicated Lanes for the Universiade

4 August 2011

SHENZHEN – To avoid traffic congestion during the Universiade in Shenzhen, the city has taken some important measures for a smooth transport. Drivers are advised not to use the Universiade lanes between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., or face a fine of 300 yuan (US$46), starting from today and until Aug. 24.

Shenzhen police increased the Universiade lanes from originally planned 13 lanes to 28 lanes, on the left-hand side of the roads which are marked with the Universiade logo with LED screens or sign boards to remind motorists.

Only vehicles with certificates issued by the Shenzhen Universiade Organizing Committee, fire engines, ambulances and police cars can use the lanes.

The restrictions on the special lanes will be extended to midnight on the Universiade opening day.

Shenzhen traffic police will conduct a rehearsal for Universiade traffic between 6 a.m. and midday today. The rehearsal will involve 68 routes, 19 sports venues, and seven hotels for Universiade guests.
