ZURICH – Team Switzerland met at the Federal Institute for Technology in Zurich for the preparation of the Universiade in Shenzhen including obtaining the official equipment. The largest Swiss delegation ever will consist of 93 athletes in 14 different sports. The Swiss athletes will compete in athletics, artistic gymnastics, beach volleyball, chess, cycling, diving, fencing, golf, judo, sailing, sport shooting, swimming, taekwondo and volleyball men. Including the athletes, medical officials, media team and delegation leaders, the Swiss team will consist of 136 persons.
Distribution of the uniforms
Thomas Mörgeli, Head of the Swiss delegation, introduced all the team members and gave an overview about Shenzhen, the village, competition venues and some specific areas of the 26th Universiade. He showed some impressions from the HoD Meeting, while Fredi Schneider, head of elite sports in the Swiss University Sport Federation, explained the goals and aims of SUSF for the games in Shenzhen. SUSF President Andreas Csonka wished all the athletes good luck and success. Renato Maggi and Rahel Bosshard are responsible for all administrative and travel issues.
The Swiss team will directly fly from Zurichto Hong Kong in several groups, while 10 athletes have to travel via Paris. Phil Jungen, medical doctor, together with 6 physiotherapists, will take care of the Swiss delegation regarding health and medical care. Like the Winter Universiade delegation in Erzurum, also the Summer delegation has committed itself to the values of “cool and clean”, a program promoting fair and doping free sport. The slogan of the Swiss team is “Smart Strong. Swiss”.
