The Haitian Federation of University Sport (FEHSU) announces the participation of Haiti in the 26th Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, People’s Republic of China. The Haitian delegation will consist of eight persons and the student-athletes will participate in two disciplines, i.e. judo and taekwondo.

The delegation is still the second highest participation of the country after the 2005 event in Izmir, Turkey where 17 people were part of the Haitian delegation.

Contenders will be without doubt Tudor Sanon in taekwondo, silver medallist at the 2004 Pan-American Games and double champion at the ODUCC Games in San Salvador (2008) and Santo Domingo (2010), as well as Angel Mercie Jean-Baptiste, who represented his country in judo at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 and who wants to shine at all costs for his return to Chinese soil. Erby Beralte, the Secretary-General of the National Federation will lead the delegation.

The FEHSU is celebrating its 10th anniversary of participation in the Summer Universiade. The first time was also in China at the 2001 SU in Beijing. Haïti’s participation in Shenzhen is made possible through the support of FISU and comes a year and a half after the powerful earthquake that devastated the country.
