2013 SU Update: University Sports Camps moving “Towards the Universiade!”

KAZAN – The 3rd University Sports Camps Spartakiade held under the motto «Towards the Universiade!» opened in the Shemordan sport camp on July 16th.

The Spartakiade organized by Kazan State Power Engineering University with the assistance of the Ministry of Sport, Tourism and Youth Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate became a real festival of sport and youth in summertime recreation of students. An inexpressible atmosphere of national culture of Tatarstan and talented student creative groups reigned during the Spartakiade. For instance, participants and guests were met with bread and salt, Murakami lead singer Dilyara Vagapova and best creative groups of Kazan State Power Engineering University performed at the opening ceremony. The opening of competitions was celebrated by the participants’ parade – teams of 9 higher education institutes of Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny and Almetyevsk.

Chief of Staff and Advisor to Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate Larisa Sulima was the honorable guest of the Spartakiade participants’ parade. She pointed out that “it is not surprising that the Spartakiade is being held on the base of Kazan State Power Engineering Universitywhich has one of the best sport infrastructures. Thanks to such attention to sports development and creation of infrastructure, and, of course, youth devotion to sport,Kazan maintains the reputation of the sport capital ofRussia. Victory of Kazan and Russia in a struggle for the right to hold the 2015 World Aquatics Championship is a straight confirmation of this fact. It is very important that sport venues of the Universiade are full of life. Doing sports and taking care of health became our lifestyle because the summer season is at its height but we still prefer active sport recreation.’

Students competed in 6 sports: beach volleyball, basketball, mini football, table tennis, chess and billiards. According to head referee Albert Khairullin, all competitions stuck to the Olympic principles.

Students of Kazan State Power Engineering University became winners of the Spartakiade, students of Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University won the second place, and students of Kazan State Technological University won the third place.
