SHENZHEN – The underground section of Metro Line 3, the Universiade Line, opened at 2 p.m. June 28th.

The 42-km line will operate between Yitian Station in Futian District to Shuanglong Station in Longgang District between 6:30 a.m. and 11 p.m. It is the only line connecting downtown with the main Universiade venues in Longgang District.

Trains will depart at 10-minute intervals in off-peak hours and six-minute intervals during rush hours. The fare is 8 yuan (US$1.2) for the whole trip, which takes 70 minutes. Passengers can change to Metro Line 1 at Laojie Station, according to Yang Shaolin, general manager of Metro Line 3 Co.

After the opening of Metro Line 3, Laojie Station is expected to handle 300,000 passengers a day, which will become one of the busiest stations in Shenzhen.

Reporters were also invited to visit Futian Station, part of the Shenzhen Futian Transport Hub. The station has 36 exits.

Passengers can change to Metro Line 2 and the intercity rail to Guangzhou that is still under construction. Passengers can change to Line 4 at Children’s Palace Station and Metro Line 5 at Buji Station.

The elevated section from Caopu Station to Shuanglong of Line 3 opened last December. The line covers Futian, Luohu and Longgang districts, and will greatly help the economy in Buji, Henggang and Longgang subdistricts in Longgang District, city government officials said earlier.

The extension of Line 2, from the Window of the World Station to Xinxiu in Luohu, also opened. Trains will operate from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 10-minute intervals and the whole trip will cost 8 yuan and take 68 minutes.
