Golf closes National University Championship Season in SLO

LJUBLJANA On Sunday, June 12, 2011, Slovenian University Sports Association (SUSA) organised the Open national university golf championship inLjubljana.

Apart from the students, also university professors and partners ofSUSAcould compete in the championship in separate categories. This way, the students have an opportunity to socialise with the faculty staff also outside the formal university sphere.

All participants were welcomed by the President of SUSA prof. dr. Otmar Kugovnik, who also participated in the championship himself. In his speech, he congratulated the students for successfully combining their academic and sports achievements. He also expressed his joy to be able to host the best student golfers in Europe this September, whenSloveniawill host this year’s European Universities Golf Championship in Otočec.

Among the partners were also Mr Sinisa Jasnic, EUSA Vice-President and FISU EC Member and Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, EUSA Secretary General who both actively participated in the event. At the end of the championship, SUSA President and Mr Jasnic awarded the best students and participants.

The golf championship concluded the series of national university championships for the academic year 2010/11.SUSAthis year organised national university championships in 10 sports; most were held during the Student Sport Festivals (Winter and Summer editions): Alpine skiing, snowboarding, basketball, volleyball, futsal, tennis, table tennis, sport shooting, beach volleyball and golf.

SUSAthis year hosts the 2nd European Universities Golf Championship between September 6 and 10 in Otočec, a golf course which won the title of the best golf course inSlovenia two years in a row. The course has a very interesting design, suited also for the best golfers. All interested teams are kindly invited to participate; more information at golf2011.eusa.eu.
