GWANGJU – “UniFriends”, the group of university student honorary ambassadors for the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade, met with a Korean baseball legend Kim Seong-han, nicknamed “record-breaking machine” as a player as well as former head coach of Gwangju-based professional baseball team, KIA Tigers.

The 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade Organizing Committee held a regular meeting for the UniFriends at the Asia Culture Complex in the mid of May 2011, to go over their past activities and strengthen their capabilities in the future actions.

“UniFriends” comprises of thirty-six students from across Korea, including Seoul, Busan, Daegu etc, chosen last February after an application process that was eight times oversubscribed. They enjoyed the opportunity of sharing their experiences over the last three months.

Mr. Kim talked with the group about how he started his career as a baseball player, his playing days, and what he went through as KIA Tigers’ coach, as well as passing on some words of wisdom to the students based on his knowledge and experience.

The 1st term “UniFriends”, which will run until the end of August, was also on Gwangju’s English radio station, GFN, to promote local university festivals, many sports events and the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade, as part of their efforts to spread the word to cities and the whole of Korea.
