2011 SU Update: China’s State Television CCTV Covers Shenzhen Universiade in Six Languages

1 June 2011

SHENZHEN – China’s state television Central Television (CCTV) will cover the Shenzhen Universiade in six languages. Holding exclusive television rights in China to the Games, CCTV would cover the events in Chinese, English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian.

CCTV’s sports channel will broadcast live the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, said channel supervisor Jiang Heping. “The sports channel will give daily reports of the swimming, track and field, basketball, volleyball and football matches”, Jiang added. “CCTV will send a 350-member team to Shenzhen, all of whom were involved in the broadcasting of the Beijing Olympics and Guangzhou Asian Games.”

A variety of programs will be shown on the sports channel on each day of the Games, including interviews with active and retired athletes, as well as successful veterans with sports experience.

Another team of about 210 people will be set up to produce international common TV signals in eight sports. In addition to the sports channel, CCTV’s international channels will be involved in Games coverage.

“As well as reporting inside the event venues, we will extend our coverage to the whole of Shenzhen to show the world its modern image and fast development,” Jiang said.
