Bidding Cities 2017 Universiades meet at FISU HQ for a Workshop

BRUSSELS Today, May 18th, the delegates of the five bidding cities for the 2017 Universiades (2 for Winter and 3 for Summer) visited the FISU Headquarters in Brussels for a workshop.

Delegates of the 2017 SU Bid City Brasilia, BRAThe representatives from the bidding committees for the 2017 Winter Universiade – Almaty, Kazakhstan and Trentino, Italy respectively – and the 2017 Summer Universiade – Brasilia, Brazil; Koceali, Turkey and Taipei City, Chinese Taipei respectively – attended a whole day of presentations by the FISU staff explaining them the FISU Minimum Requirements for hosting a Winter or Summer Universiade.

Delegates of 2017 SU candidate Koceali, TUR with FISU EC member Kemal Tamer.The following topics were tackled in a joint morning session: creation of the Organizing Committee, financial obligations, budget and master plan, human resources, sport venues and venue operations, relations between FISU and the ISF, NSF & NUSF, Media, Broadcasting & Marketing, Athletes’ Village & catering, accreditation & registration, protocol, security, medical services & doping control, transportation and last but not least legacy.

Delegates of 2017 SU candidate Taipei City, TPEIn the afternoon a separate session for Winter and Summer Universiade hosts took place going more into detail of the specificity of the type of Universiade. The day ended with a Q & A session.

‘This workshop is an important phase in the bidding process for the candidate cities’, FISU Secretary-General/CEO Eric Saintrond commented after the workshop. ‘It is a good opportunity for the candidates to meet with the FISU staff with whom they will work closely in the next months to prepare a competitive bid. We have a lot of in-house knowledge and experience we want to share with future host cities so the Universiade brand can grow and the FISU Games can further develop.’

Next activity for the bidding cities is the observer program at the 2011 Summer Universiade in Shenzhen next August.

September 30th, the bidding cities will deliver their official bid book. Then, in October and early November, the Evaluation Committee will travel to the candidate cities for an inspection visit and in November the Bidding Committees will make their final presentations to the FISU Executive Committee followed by the attribution of the 2017 Winter & Summer Universiade.
