6 May 2011

COSTA RICA – After a year of preparation and thanks to the efforts of more than 300 people involved in the organization of the University Sports Games (JUNCOS), the Organizing Committee of JUNCOS have refined the last details to deliver this important event.

With a total investment of two hundred million colones in the development of sports facilities, Tecnológico de Costa Rica hopes to welcome more than 1,200 university athletes.

Student-athletes from public and private universities in Costa Rica will participate in the sports competitions held from May 6th to 14th.

“Today we are finalizing the last details of the event, but virtually everything is ready to offer a sportive and cultural event of the highest quality”, commented the Vice- Rector Tec, Ligia Rivas.

A renewed track, excellent conditions in the natural turf soccer fields, refurbishing the gym ‘Armando Vasquez’, and a general beautification of TEC facilities are some of the efforts being made to accommodate more than six thousand spectators expected during the week of JUNCOS.

“For some athletes JUNCOS is the beginning of an international sport career, it is an important step for participation in the upcoming FISU Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, China in August,”said Wilfrido Mathieu, a member of FECUNDE, the NUSF of Costa Rica.

The Opening Ceremony of the university sports event will take place on the soccer field at Tecnológico de Costa Rica today, May 6th, at 7pm. Admission will be free and more than 1,500 spectators are expected.
