FISU Endorsed Event: 29th International Regatta in Nantes

2 May 2011

NANTESOrganized by the Nantes University Rowing Club, the 29th International Regatta will be held in Nantes, on May 7th and 8th, 2011. Established in 1981, the regatta has become, over the years, a major event in the field of university rowing. It is today the largest international university rowing competition in France.

The event allows many French and foreign teams to compete in perfect competition conditions. The race course is located on the Erdre, one of the most beautiful rivers in France. The competition allows teams while participating to gauge their performance at a high level regatta, two weeks before the French Championships in University Rowing (May 21st and 22nd, 2011).

Schedule

May 7th, from 10:00 to 12:00 and 13:45 to 5:00 pm
During the first day of competition, the 1,000m race will take place on the waterbasin of Jonelière, with a finish line opposite the ‘Parc des Expositions de la Beaujoire’. The 1,000m race is a traditional university competition, tactically difficult where the crew must strategically manage an intense effort during a race lasting about three minutes. Relatively a fast time frame for the spectators, the 1,000m can seem endless for the rowers.

May 8th, from 13:45 to 5:00 pm

This 29th edition will be marked by a major change during this second day of competitions. Indeed, the rowers will compete in the 500m sprint races, located in the city center, near the Bridge of La Motte-Rouge, to allow the public to witness a great show.

Following the success of the 28th edition in 2010 (12 French and 7 foreign delegations), Nantes University Rowing Club announces a thrilling international competition through the participation of 11 foreign delegations and 16 French delegations.
