A cooperation agreement between the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate and Shenzhen 2011 Organizing Committee was signed as well within the framework of the Tatarstan delegation’s visit to the host city of the 26th Summer Universiade during the Games.

The agreement was signed by Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate Vladimir Leonov and Vice-Secretary of the Executive Committee for the 26th Summer Universiade Liu Pingsheng. Among other persons attending the agreement signing event were FISU SU Director Marc Vandenplas, Vice-President of the Executive Board and President of the Executive Office for the 26th Summer Universiade Liang Daoxing. The Kazan 2013 delegation was represented by Deputy Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate Igor Sivov and Volunteers Department Director Liliya Barieva.

In accordance with the signed agreement, 30 volunteers from Kazan will travel to China to have an internship at the Universiade Village and at one of the largest sports venues of the Shenzhen Universiade. The agreement also specifies the key requirements that the applicants must meet in order to be considered for the internship: sociability, volunteering experience, fluent English, speaking Chinese. The Shenzhen 2011 Organizing Committee will provide accommodation, food, volunteer outfit and a cultural programme.

Three days prior to the start of the Games in Shenzhen, 2013 SU volunteers will have special training courses in the designated areas they are assigned to.

According to Vladimir Leonov, only the best volunteers will be entitled to go to Shenzhen after they undergo an elaborate training. ‘We hope that our volunteers will both gain a necessary experience and help to deliver such a grand event on the highest possible level’, Leonov said. For his part, Liang Daoxing pointed out that the signed agreement was an important step that will be undoubtedly beneficial for both SU Organizing Committees.

Marc Vandenplas stressed the significance of volunteer exchanges for the development of international university sports and FISU. ‘It’s the experience that will enable you to feel the very heart of the World University Games. It will allow you to amass a new practical experience, gain knowledge and master new skills from Games to Games which will consequently help to improve level of competitions management’, he said.

There will be 22,000 volunteers involved at the 2011 Summer Universiade’s sports venues and 250,000 volunteers assisting within the city of Shenzhen.
