2013 SU Update: Doping Control Officers will be trained to protect Interests of Athletes

KAZAN – The anti-doping officers and chaperones training programme for the 27th World University Summer Games was officially launched on April 11th.

The solemn event dedicated to the launch of the programme saw attendance of RusADA Anti-Doping Agency Director General Ramil Khabriev and First Deputy Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate Azat Kadyrov.

From April 11th to 13th, 2011 senior and postgraduate students of Kazan State Medical University received thematic lectures following which they will be entitled to undertake an internship and gain necessary knowledge and skills while being trained by foreign doping control specialists during the 2011 European Weightlifting Championships to be held in Kazan on April 8-17. It stands to note that the study group includes senior and postgraduate students that went through a tough selection process and proved themselves.

Azat Kadyrov delivered a welcome speech: «Nowadays sports and doping control are two inseparable notions. It’s pleasant that you are eager to devote yourselves to such a complicated but important activity. The work you do is critical, since you ensure fair play in sports. I congratulate you on being selected and entitled now to participate in the programme.» Ramil Khabriev stated: «All the programme participants are to face a huge amount of work during the test events that are to be held in Kazan.» According to the Director General of the RusADA Anti-Doping Agency, such qualities as honesty, decency and desire guaranteed that athletes adhering to principles of fair play had an opportunity to compete equally.»

The anti-doping officers and chaperones training programme for the 27th Summer Universiade is implemented within the framework of the cooperation agreement that was signed between the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate and Kazan State Medical University on February 11th, 2011. The cooperation implies cooperation in implementation of the Kazan 2013 volunteers training programme, including involvement of volunteers in events relating to preparations and delivery of the 2013 Summer Universiade.

The RusADA Anti-Doping Agency and Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate signed the cooperation agreement on November 26th, 2010. The agreement is designed to guarantee an efficient interaction aimed at developing sports and ensuring doping-free Games. A huge amount of work is to be done to prepare and implement educational programmes, as well as to build an appropriate infrastructure.
