12 April 2011

KAZANThe Trail of the North Pole Expeditions Project was recently launched in Kazan. It’s a joint project organized by the Kazan Expedition Club and Norilsk Expedition Club named after Vladilen Troitsky.

The send-off ceremony gathered friends, travelers’ relatives, Kazan 2013 volunteers and media representatives. The event was also attended by Deputy Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate and Universiade Village Mayor Farid Abdulganiev. During the event he also mentioned the forthcoming event of the FISU flag transfer in Shenzhen.

Farid Abdulganiev talked to the media about organizing the expedition under the auspices of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate and stated that such unique and ambitious projects would be implemented on a regular basis. “The Kazan 2013 Directorate always supports the initiatives where such qualities as self-overcoming, power of will, great desire are of great importance. As you know the route is unique because not anyone will dare to cover 2,000 kilometers to the North Pole. The expedition will prove to Russia, to students and youth that it’s possible to take such a step,” he said.

For his part, the leader of The Trail of the North Pole Expeditions thanked the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate for the rendered support and talked about the crew’s eagerness to promote ideas and values of the 2013 Summer Universiade.

The group of travelers led by Dmitry Murzin will head to the northernmost point of the Arctic and plant the Kazan 2013 flag on the most significant locations along the route. They also plan to find an unnamed island and name it after the 2013 Summer Universiade. The total distance of the expedition is 2,500 kilometers, and the ski trek is to last four months.
