2013 SU Update: Cheerleading Championship takes place at Universiade Village

1 April 2011

KAZAN A cheerleading tournament was held at the Tennis Academy recently. Five teams presented their performances which included dances and complex tricks. The best cheerleading team got the champion title.

The competition terms are simple: a team delivers a number which contains the components of tumbling, dance, jumps, cheers and stunting; cheerleaders use pom-poms during their organized routines. Artistiс skills are important as well.

Colorful outfits, bright appearances, synchronized moves, music that segues from folk to modern hits and a brilliant performance, delivered by young men and women, got the audience worked up. Even tennis players got distracted from their training sessions and were captivated by the young cheerleaders.

The panel of judges had a difficult task set before them but still they decided the winners. Shake Movie, a team from Building 5, was awarded the third place. A young man charmed everybody with his solo number during which he demonstrated amazing flexibility and acrobatic skills by performing awesome splits.

Extrim сheerleaders from Building 8 became runner-ups of the championship. Their gracious performance was really judge-pleasing.

DU6 from International Students’ Building 6 earned the first place. Both the cheerleading team and their supporters showed themselves off really well. Their fans were cheering for their favorite performers: they were singing chants and waving the banners.

“Everyone in the team got involved in preparation of the dance routines”, teacher of Building 6 and one of the initiators of the tournament Liliya Alekperova said. “Within the whole week we have been rehearsing our performance, looking for our outfits and were really enjoying what we do. After all, I want to wish the team further development. There is no way except forward, only forward!”
