Former WU Participants leave their Marks at IBU Events

BRUSSELS Finnish biathlete and former Winter Universiade participant Kaisa Mäkäräinen left her mark at the current IBU World Championship in Khanty Mansiysk, Russia. Mäkäräinen won the gold medal in the pursuit competition and also pocketed the silver in the sprint.

28 year-old Mäkäräinen, a student at North Karelia University of Applied Sciences, participated in the 2005 Winter Universiade in Innsbruck, Austria. Her best performance there was fifth place in the 12.5 km mass start competition.

Earlier, last month, at the IBU Open European Championships in Ridnaun, Italy Ukrainian Artem Pryma won the men’s 20K individual. Krasimir Anev of Bulgaria won the Bronze medal. Both athletes participated at the 2011 Winter Universiade in Erzurum, Turkey. Anev won the silver in the men’s 20Kand in the mass start, while Pryma collected the gold in the 10K sprint, silver in pursuit and gold in mass start.
