2011 WU Update – Day 6 – Figure Skating

 A huge crowd witnessed the start of the figure skating competition

 

Favorites of the public, Turkish skaters Alisa AGAFONOVA / Alper UCAR ERZURUM Today, February 1st, the figure skating competition of the Winter Universiade started. The skaters started with the performance of their short program.

In Ice Dancing 15 couples from 10 countries entered the competition. After performing their short program Russians Kristina GORSHKOVA / Vitali BUTIKOV are ranked first followed by the Italian couple Lorenza ALESSANDRINI / Simone VATURI in second place and Louise WALDEN / Owen EDWARDS from Great Britain. Turkish skaters Alisa AGAFONOVA / Alper UCAR are in fourth spot to the delight of the spectators who came in drones as the arena was sold out.

The 32 participants in the men’s individual competition also performed their short program today. After their performance the top three is dominated by Japan, with Nobunari ODA and Daisuke MURAKAMI respectively first and second, trailed by Russian skater Sergei Voronov.

In the pairs’ short program 5 pairs are participating representing 2 countries, i.e. Russia and China. After the first day Lubov ILIUSHECHKINA / Nodari MAISURADZE (RUS) are ranked first followed by Yue ZHANG / Lei WANG (CHN) and Huibo DONG / Yiming WU (CHN).
