2011 WU Update – Day3 – Biathlon – 15&20km

Russian double in biathlon

ERZURUM – January 29th- In Kandili, Russian athlete Alxey Trusow took the first place in Men’s 20 km Individual Biathlon Competition in which 200 athletes competed. Trusow got the lead early in the race and continued ahead to win the gold medal with a 57 minutes 34.02 seconds time. Bulgarian athlete Krasimir Anew became second (54 minutes 42.11) and Slovakian athlete finished third (57 minutes 44.06). Note that Ahmet Üstüntaş became the best ranking Turkish athlete at the 33rd spot, while Turkish athletes Müjdat Boz, Recep Efe, Samet Oglago and Orhan Gazi Civil took 35th, 37th,41st and 42nd spots respectively.

In the women’s event, Daria Virolainen, also from Russia won the race with fantastic style. Franciska Hilderbrand (GER) and Darya Yurkevich (BLR) completed this podium.
