2011 WU Update – Day 3 – Ice Hockey

29 January 2011

ERZURUM While the women had only a training day today, three matches in the men’s competition were played.

Russia started the day well by beating the Czechs 5-1. Turkey had another tough game against Japan. Team Nippon drilled the puck 18 times in the Turkish net, while the host team stayed scoreless.

The last men’s game of today was a clash between Canada and newcomer Belarus. Belarus will enter FISU ice hockey history with a bang as the team has already made a name for itself and can be considered as a medal contender. In a dramatic game Team Belarus got a lead in the first period when Demkov scored within the fifth minute. It took Canada until the last minute of the second period to score the equalizer via Risk. In the third period Canada scores a third and takes the lead via McLean on a power-play goal. In a dramatic last minute Belarus equalizes via Razvadouski bringing the game in overtime and penalty shots, which were won by Team Belarus.
