2011 WU Update – Day 2: Cross Country

First Gold Medal belongs to Russia

ERZURUM  January 28th . For this second day of the games, Russian athlete Alia Iksanova won the first gold medal of the 25th WU during the 5 km Individual Cross Country event.

60 athletes competed this morning at the Kandilli Nordic Combined Ski Centre. Alia Iksanova won the Gold Medal, while Ukrainian athlete Kateryna Gryrenko took the second place. Italian skier Virginia de Martin Topranin gained the Bronze Medal

Turkish National athletes Rojbin Özen and Büşra Güneş took the 47th and 54th places.

In the men’s 10 km event, Vladislav Skobelev from Russia won the Gold just in front of Akira Samuel Lenting from Japan and Gennadiy Matvienko from Kazakhstan.

Once again, it was a fantastic result for Team Russia today.
