2011 WU Update: Universiade Torch Relay In İzmir

IZMIR – The Torch Relay for the 25th Winter Universiade in Erzurum has reached the city of Izmir, host city of the 23rd Summer Universiade in 2005 and was followed by big crowd. The Torch with the Unviersiade flame was placed on a platform which was set up in Cumhuriyet Square.

Izmir Provincial Director of Youth and Sports Sabri Sadıklar stated the 25th WU will also open the doors for other major events to be hosted in Turkey.

Turkish National Olympic Committee Vice-President Türker Arslan said: ‘In sports Turkey is taking a more prominent place in the world. The 25th WU is an example of this. .As TNOC we really showed great effort in handling this organisation.I believe that Turkey will host this event in the best way. The facilities are excellent and I  believe that these venues will accelerate the winter sports in Turkey and hopefully raise successful athletes in winter sports.’
