2013 SU Update: Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin meets Kazan 2013 Volunteers

Meeting with Putin

 

MOSCOW Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin had a meeting with volunteers in Moscow on December 7th.

The meeting was held within the announcement of the results of the ‘Best Volunteer Centers of Russia’ Contest, a few hours prior to the award ceremony. The event brought together 18 best volunteers of Russia, including two Kazan 2013 volunteers – Riat and Karina Ismagilova.

The Kazan 2013 volunteers made a report to Vladimir Putin about the development of the volunteer movement in Tatarstan, the total number of volunteers to be used for the delivery of the 2013 Summer Universiade and the events they volunteered in, including the 25th Summer Universiade in Belgrade and the 1st Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.

During the talks the Russian Prime Minister answered questions asked by the volunteers who were especially interested in issues concerning community transport concessionary fares for volunteers and a volunteer insurance program.

Apart from that, Vladimir Putin attended the ‘Best Volunteer Centers of Russia’ Awards. 26 Russian universities and institutes were granted prizes, including the Tupolev Kazan State Technical University represented by its head Yury Gortyshev. Vladimir Putin closed the ceremony with a speech in which he expressed his support for the volunteers and wished them success in their activity.

About the Contest

The ‘Best Volunteer Centers of Russia’ Contest was held among institutions of higher and specialized secondary education of the Russian Federation in 11 individual areas: Transport, Medicine, Doping Control, Team and Delegation Services, Protocol and Language Services, Technology, Ceremonies, Communications and Press Operations, Administration Management and Accreditation, Services, Event Services and Paralympic Integration. There were more than 126 applications submitted from 51 institutions of higher education and 9 institutions of specialized secondary education from 23 federal subjects.
