FISU President George E KillianBrussels – Today, November 18th, the FISU Executive Committee started its three-day board meeting in Brussels. As you know, the FISU Headquarters are located in Brussels and these days, Brussels is also the host city of the first City Events Conference organised by FISU together with the GL Events group.
The meeting traditionally started with the approval of the report of the previous meeting, followed by the reports of the President, the Treasurer and the Secretary-General. The board members had the opportunity to listen to detailed presentations about FISU strategy, FISU activities and FISU finances. The floor was then open to our Committees.
Mr. Stefan Bergh, Chair of the CDSU (Committee for the Development of University Sports) together with Pedro Dias, the vice-chair reported on the activities of this very important Committee. The relations with the Continental Associations and their development projects, the FISU Membership were among the topics.
Mrs. Verena Burk, Chair of the Women’s Committee gave an update of her Committee’s activities. Main topic was the presence of the Committee at the 2010 FISU Forum with a session ‘Women’s Leadership in (University) Sport’ with two keynote speakers and two workshops. Mrs. Burk was very satisfied with the activities linked to the Women’s Committee during this 11th Vigo FISU Forum.
For the second time (after Belgrade 2009 and the tandem project) the FISU Women and Sport Award will be awarded to an existing project developed by a Federation, an Organisation, an Institution or an Individual. Particular attention will be given to projects that could act as models for other countries, regions and/or continents.
The winner which will received financial support will be a project that supports participation of women in sport, coaching of women in sport, and/or developing women’s leadership in sport structures; all must embrace the University Sport movement. The funds given by FISU must be devoted to the development of the project. The award will be presented at the FISU General Assembly during the 26th Summer Universiade in Shenzhen to the representing Member Federation.
Next, Mr. Leonz Eder, Chair of the Press Committee joined Verena Burk who is also the IPC (International Press Committee) Vice-Chair to present the latest activities of the Press Committee together with Dejan Susovic, FISU Media Director and Christian Pierre, FISU Press Officer. A report on their participation at the ISJA Seminar in Teheran was presented by Mr. Eder. He also gave an update about the Seminar for Young Journalists that will be held in Shenzhen during the 2011 Summer Universiade. He gave the floor to Dejan Susovic and Christian Pierre who made a report about the development and activities of the FISU media department.
1st Vice-President and CESU Chair Mr. Gallien gave an extended report about the FISU FORUM in Vigo. He also gave more information regarding the Scientific Conference at the 2011 Winter Universiade and the FISU Conference at the 2011 Summer Universiade in Shenzhen. Themes and speakers are chosen and Mr Gallien is very confident about the great success of those two events.
Kolë Gjeoshaj, Director of Educational Services and Development gave the members an update about the candidature of Gwangju for the 12th FISU FORUM in 2014. After hearing this report the members decided to accept the Gwangju candidature.
Last but not least, Lawrence D. Rink made a very exhaustive report concerning the activities of the Medical Committee before, during and after our events.
The Executive Committee meeting will continue tomorrow.
