2011 WU Update: Erzurum Starts Counting Down Last 100 Days to Opening Ceremony

ERZURUM – Yesterday, October 19th, the Organizing Committee of the 25th Winter Universiade in Erzurum celebrated the ‘100 Day Countdown’ up to the Opening Ceremony of the FISU Winter Games on January 27th, 2011.

A press conference was held in Atatürk University. In attandance of the meeting were Governor Sebahattin Öztürk, Mayor Ahmet Küçükler, Atatürk University Rector Prof. Dr Hikmet Koçak, TUSF President Prof. Dr. Kemal Tamer, Erzurum 2011 General Coordinator Bekir Korkmaz, Deputy General Director of Youth and Sports Mehmet Kocatepe and Provincial Director of Youth and Sports Fatih Çintimar. The officials explained the developments related to the 2011 WU and answered the questions of the journalists.

 

 

In the evening a rock concert featuring the band Gripin was staged at the campus of Atatürk University. Some 10,000 students attended the concert held in Atatürk University Stadium. Just before the Gripin concert, local music groups Yüksek Rock’m and Carmilla also performed. During the concert General Coordinator Bekir Korkmaz and FISU Winter Universiade Director Milan Augustin talked about the works conducted for WU games. The show ended with the fireworks held from the jumping towers.
