WROCLAW – Wroclaw, the capital of the region of Lower Silesia, hosts these days 345 participants from 28 countries of Europe, Asia and America. The number of shooters at the 3rd World University Shooting Championship demonstrates the popularity of Sport Shooting among university students, University Sport Federations, but also the National Shooting Sports Federations are taking a strong interest for this FISU event.
The Opening Ceremony of the 3rd World University Sport Shooting Championship took place at the City Center-Market Square on September 14th, one day before the competition start. The Mayor of Wroclaw, Dr. Rafal Dutkiewicz opened the Champioship and together with the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee Mr. Marian Dymalski welcomed all participants.
Medal Podium 50m Pistol Men Yesterday, September 15th, at the Shooting Range of the Army WKS Ślask Sports Club of Wroclaw were awarded the first medals in the three finals. The first individual gold medal – 50 m Pistol Men was awarded to LEE Dae Myung (KOR). This shooter won a quota place for the London 2012 Olympic Games at the 50th World Shooting Championship 2010 in Munich (individual silver medal-50 m Pistol Men ). The silver medal was won by Ebrihim BARKHORDARI (IRI) and the bronze, a first medal for the host country, went to Marceli KRZYSZTON (POL).
Medal Podium 10m Rifle WomenA high level of the shooting results and the biggest number of shooters (52) could be observed in the discipline 10 m Rifle Women. The level of competition can be compared with the level at a European Championship or ISSF World Cups. The individual gold medal went to Marian TALEBI (499.8) and silver medal was awarded to Magdalena JAMBOZORG (498.9) both from the Islamic Republic of Iran. The bronze medal went to Marie-Laura GIBBON (FRA) with 498.8 points.
The last final of the first competition day – Double Trap Men – was dominated by the Italian shooters who all won individuals medals.
Korea, Iran, Poland and Hungary line up strong teams but nearly in each team you can find a great shooter. The LOC expects in all competition days a high quality of shooting results, because among the participants are a lot of medallists from World and European Shooting Championships 2009 and 2010 as well as the ISSF World Cups.
