2010 WUC Woodball Update: Opening Ceremony

KAMPALAThe first day of the 3rd World University Woodball Championship was very eventful with the Opening Ceremony taking place in the early afternoon, teams practicing on the setup fairways and many meetings held by the OC to finalise preparations.

Technical MeetingDespite an initial rain shower, all proceedings for the Opening Ceremony went ahead as planned. The Delegations attending the event lined up for the traditional march pass, signalling their presence and thanking the applause from the significant crowd that gathered at the Speke Resort in Munyonyo in Kampala, Uganda.

Eleven teams from three continents are represented at the competition: Estonia, Hong Kong China, Indonesia, India, Kenya, Nigeria, Sudan, Tanzania, Chinese Taipei, Zambia and the home team of Uganda.

The Opening Ceremony was attended by many VIP representing FISU, FASU, local authorities and many Ugandan universities and other institutions. The traditional protocol speeches were delivered by FISU Executive Committee member Silvanus Lamptey, local Organising Committee President Vincent Kisenyi and Dan Tamwesigire, Commissioner for Physical Education and Sports.

His Excellency the Vice-President of Uganda, Prof. Gilbert Balibaseka Bukenya graced all attendees of the Opening Ceremony by officially declaring the 3rd Woodball University Championship open. The distinguished scholar and Doctor of Medicine was invited suit to try the sport of Woodball, together with all other attending distinguished guests.

Team Hong Kong ChinaA cultural program followed with a traditional magunjju dance performed by the Kika Troupe. This very entertaining and spectacular performance brought the ceremony to a close.

The day also comprised the CISCA meeting in the early morning and the General Technical meeting in the evening, were all Delegations and the LOC met to cover key aspects regarding the competition and the event in all.
