2011 WU Update: Turkish PM Visits Erzurum Venues

ERZURUM – On August 13th, Turkish Prime Minister Erdoğan visited Erzurum, host city of the 25th Winter Universiade. Together with Health Minister Recep Akdağ, Erzurum Governor Sebahattin Öztürk,General Director of Youth and Sport Yunus Akgül and Erzurum Universiade General Coordinator Bekir Korkmaz he inspected  the Cemal Gürsel Stadium.

Erdoğan later visited the 3,000-seating capacity  ice arena in Aziziye and Turkey’s first ski jumping towers in Kiremitlik Tepe.

General Director of Youth and Sport Yunus Akgül, 2011 General Coordinator Bekir Korkmaz, officials of  Youth and Sports General Directorate and construction company officials provided information about the facilities to Prime Minister Erdoğan.While the PM inspected the facilities, he also made a statement to the journalists. ‘ We are going to be successful’, PM Erdoğan said. ‘Erzurum has made serious investments so far and still continues doing so. Erzurum will have a  stadium with a seating capacity of 20,000. It will also regain a modern city stadium.’ The PM We have inspected the ice arena and jumping towers. We have athletes accommodation and  dormitories for our guests to stay.We have completed the airport already. Everything is being prepared according all environmental regulations.’

A Universiade souvenir plate was presented to Prime Minister Erdoğan on behalf of General Coordinator Bekir Korkmaz.

Later on PM Erdoğan visited the Ice Hockey Hall in the Yenişehir district where he watched the Short Track teams work. Provincial Director of Youth and Sport Fatih Çintimar and National Team Coach Wang Xuemei from China explained short track tactics to the Prime Minister.
