2010 WUC Bridge Update: Day 1 of Competitions

4 August 2010

KAOHSIUNG – As the first day of the round robin started on August 4th, 2010, there were three rounds that all participants met each team round by round. Marvelously, at the end of the competition, the ranking positions showed us that Chinese Taipei B and Poland are sharing the same 62 VP. Both of them leaded the first place.

USA A and France also played an extremely close match, and sharing the same 56 VP in the Third place. Germany A and USA B were running after USA A and France within 2VP and 6VP respectively.

Some other promising teams such as Israel, China A, China B, United Kingdom are trying to catch up. After all, competing and struggling keeps going, and it’s too early to see the final result. So, let’s wait and see.

Yena WIRAHMA Focus on the Girls

The 5th World University Bridge Championship has started stately. There are 73 players of 14 teams from 10 countries, but only 5 women.

WIRAHMA Yena of Indonesia, GIAMPIETRO Cristina of Germany, WANG Jui of Chinese Taipei, O’CONNOR Sarah of Great Britain and Qiuji XIE of China have become a focus that we want to discuss as following.

We wanted to ask the 5 female players how they think about their own female characteristics benefiting the bridge.

Yena WIRAHMA from Indonesia said that she’s just like a mother or a sister in her bridge club because of her attentive and sweet-natured disposition. She always takes care of other male members and they respect her, too.

Cristina GIAMPIETRO from Germany thought that males always underestimate her because of being a girl. But this is her distinctive superior, isn’t it?
