2010 WUC Baseball Update: Day 4 of Competitions

TOKYO Day four of competitions at the 5th World University Baseball Championship in Tokyo, Japan resulted in the following scores.

Canada vs. USA: 1-8

USA was the first to score in the 2nd inning by a timely hit from Nick Ramirez and steadily added runs including a solo homer by Esposito leaving Canada far behind. Brilliant pitching by Barnes kept Canada scoreless till the 7th inning and Nick Ramirez came on relief to win over Canada which scored a run by safe hit of Flemming in the 8th inning.

Cuba vs. China: 15-0

Run scoring doubles of Olivera and Abreu brought 2 runs to Cuba in the 1st inning. Cuba added another 5 runs in the 2nd inning by a base-loaded homerun of Cespedes and a homerun of Abreu. In the 4th inning, Cuba batted around starting with a homerun of A. Despaigne and picked up 6 runs. Four Cuban pitchers kept China scoreless, allowing 3 safe hits and called the game in the 5th inning.

Sri Lanka vs. Chinese Taipei: 0-16

Chinese Taipei scored 12 runs in the 1st inning with 7 safe hits including homerun of Huang Chih Pei and added 4 more runs by 4 innings. Liao Chuang Jun and Chiu Hao Chun of Chinese Taipei kept Sri Lanka scoreless and called the game. Withanage, first batter for Sri Lanka delivered safe in the 1st inning, which was the only safe hit for Sri Lanka for the game.
