More than 1,000 Athletes in Brazilian League 2010

BRAZIL More than 1,000 athletes compete in the regional qualifier of the Brazilian University Sport League 2010 in team sports: basketball, handball, futsal and volleyball, male and female. The cities of Maceio (AL) and Uberlândia (MG) will host the competition from July 26th to 31st.

Over 50 teams entered in the League’s regional stage representing the states of Pará, Ceará, Alagoas, Rio Grande do Norte, Sergipe, Bahia, Acre, Piaui, Pernambuco, Amapá, Santa Catarina, Minas Gerais, Goias, Sao Paulo and Federal District.

Prior to this regional stage of the League 2010, the teams faced the state qualifying tournament that brought together thousands of athletes around the country.

The regional steps are qualifiers for the finals of the Brazilian University League 2010 in the city of Recife (PE) between September 20th and 26th. The team medals – first, second and third places – in each discipline ensure a spot in the final round.

The Brazilian University Sport League is organized by the Brazilian University Sports Confederation (CBDU) in partnership with Koch Tavares and is in its fifth edition. In addition to the competitions in team sports, the Brazilian League promoted in 2010 Beach Volleyball Tournament (in January); Karate, Judo and Taekwondo (in April) and will still hold the Soccer tournament in September.

“We came to the fifth edition of the University Sports League and every year increases the amount of participating teams and the technical level of the game. CBDU also improves the structure offered for athletes and universities with accommodation, meals and transportation. The League’s project to make national university sport stronger with a calendar of high level competitions throughout the season”, said Luciano Cabral, CBDU’s president.

The results of the Brazlian League and the Brazilian Olympic College count for points universities and state federations can win to be awarded an Efficiency Trophy for being the best of the season.
