OUSA Games: Opening Ceremony

TOOWOOMBA – On July 4th, the Opening Ceremony of the Northern University Games took place in Toowoomba in which teams from Oceania (Samoa and American Samoa) are taking part in their first ever multi-sport competition.

The Games are hosted by the University of Southern Queensland of which its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bill Lovegrove is member of the board of the National University Sport Association of Australia.

The delegates from American Samoa, Federate State of Micronesia, Fiji and Samoa attended the Opening Ceremony together with Don Knapp CEO of the NUSF of Australia who introduced the delegates to the Mayor Mr. Peter Taylor. It was the opportunity for Mrs. Karen Nelson OUSA President and FISU Executive Committee Member to present a reward to the University and the Organizing Committee.

The teams from Oceania will compete in Tennis and Netball. The competition program is composed of 10 sports. Ten local universities and 1,000 students are participating in this event.

The sports are: Basketball, Football, Golf, Lawn Bowls, Netball, Rugby Sevens, Tennis, Tenpin Bowling, Touch and Volleyball.
